Nothing can prepare the passenger/sailor when their ship sails into the River Mersey and they view this building for the first time. It makes Liverpool one of the most recognisable waterfronts in the world.

Liverpool Blitz Memorial
The Liverpool Blitz Memorial to the Liverpool civilians killed by German bombers during WWII. The bronze statue by Tom Murphy is in St Nicolas Church near the Pier Head. Featuring a mother with babe in arms, beckoning her playful son to leave his toy plane + seek shelter from the bombs. Around 4000 civilians were killed + 10,000 injured – the most bombed provincial city in the country.
