A slow thaw at lower levels saw us head to beneath the north face of Ben Nevis to find good winter conditions and make use of the access track to help with the heavy packs! A few hours walk in and some digging found us camped on a snow platform a few hundred metres above the CIC Hut. Ben Nevis, Beneath, Hut, Mount Everest, Levels

We enjoyed appalling weather with heavy driving rain and strong winds and big thaw. The rivers and hills were awash with water. So we started the day with a session in the ice factor. Both were keen to try it out and we had a good session climbing looking at belaying for Will who had not done much before then placed some ice screws and constructed ice threads. This is not to be compared to a summer ascent This Course is designed to give the guys necessary winter skills training to allow a safe ascent of the UK’s highest mountain in winter conditions! Conditions are really good in Scotland at the moment. There is snow down to about 600m meters around Glen Coe and Locaber, above which there is a mix of fresh powder, windblown snow, and hard refrozen snow where the wind has scoured the slopes. It was freezing at all levels today, with frost in the valley's lasting into the afternoon. Glen Coe, Fresh Powder, Slopes, The Valley
