‘'The country above Sidmouth'' by Beatrix Potter - Beatrix Potter captured the unique patchwork beauty of the south Devon countryside, its vibrant coastal towns, romantic little cottages and expansive estuaries with impressionistic brush strokes and a surprisingly bold and rather contemporary use of colour. The rich palette of the West Country inspired not only a series of exquisite watercolours but also some of Potter's most evocative writing.
Sand, Sidbury, Devon - An elegant Elizabethan manor rebuilt in the 1590's by the Huyshe family and then carefully restored and extended in the early 20th century by Roland Huyshe with help from the architect, E H Harbottle. The new work is pure Tudor and virtually indistinguishable. An historic house lived in by the family who have owned it & shared their history with it for over 500 years.
