The gates of the Sheffield Union workhouse at Fir Vale in South Yorkshire, with the workhouse porter standing behind. The workhouse, on Smilter Lane (now Herries Road), was opened in 1880. The site later became the City General Hospital, then in 1967 was renamed the Northern General #MediaStorehouse
