The Arctic is a region often overlooked by those of us who occupy the warmer, less baron parts of the earth. What is perceived as an empty vastness is instead a complex landscape with nearly four million inhabitants. “Portraits of Place: The Arctic in Photographs” at the Anchorage Museum showcases the beauty and wonder of the arctic as seen through the lenses of five photographers from around the world: Acacia Johnson, Brian Adams, Evgenia Arbugaeva, Olaf Otto Becker and Tiina Itkonen.
