Susanna Bauer - This embroidery artist links very well with my leaf project. She creates some amazingly detailed work, with thread that’s carefully stitched into leaves. Bauer uses natural colours that compliment her theme.

These stunning little pieces are the work of Cornwall based artist Susanna Bauer, and yes, I am now planning to spend my weekend looking for leaves, and rocks, and sticks.

Made of over 100 pieces of fabric. I machine stitched them to the cotton canvas with free-motion embroidery. The star shapes are meant to be a pattern of floating seeds. The silhouettes are mainly machine stitched, but the tips are hand embroidered with tiny French knots with a single thread of floss. There are small gold stitches scattered around the background, that don't really show here. The colours may seem a bit unreal, but I have seen these colours in nature.
