1920s Lewins Mead, Bristol

A road sweeper poses for the camera at the foot of the historic Christmas Steps, Lewin's Mead BS1, where the fish & chip shop is now. Earl's watches and clocks, now trading in The Horsefair, is one of Bristol's oldest businesses. The firm's first home was in Christmas Street in 1840, near to the restored St Batholomew's Hospital gateway. It later moved to the corner of Silver Street and The Haymarket.
