Fine Motor Friday- Lock and Key Fine Motor Tray - No Time For Flash Cards

Not only does this activity entertain your little locksmith to be it also develops manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving and memory! That’s a lot for one simple ( and mess free) activity. My son loved it- it was challenging but not frustrating. My advice is if you think your little one is ready, try it […]

Loving Them To Pieces

I feel like all I've been doing this year is writing about boxes. These are the top and bottom of a long box that came along with our giant tube (which I've still not had the courage to cut up into shorter pieces). Watching children play with boxes makes me want to write a poem about them. Or sing a song. These they seem to like to hide under, together, making it feel for a few seconds as if there are fewer children at school today. Then suddenly they burst back out into the light, bringing…

Five Great Ways to Encourage STEM Curiosity - Modarri

Inside a baby’s mind: “Blocks have no flavor. Cats are soft. Colorful leaves crunch.” Babies and toddlers are naturally scientific explorers. Without guidance, they will form hypotheses, run experiments and reach conclusions — all day long. Some will keep tinkering with the world and become adults who confidently make basic household repairs, maintain their vehicles, and make clever ideas become …

Borrowed Workbench

I've mentioned before the benefit of working for a school district, especially one that has a resource centre. I borrow from the centre often. It saves money - I don't have to buy it. I send it back on it's due date which means I don't have to store it. This month I borrowed the workbench. The children have showed interest in hammering, every time I put out golf tees and hammers it is a busy place. I've been waiting for this kit for half the year. On one hand it was frustrating waiting but…

The Woodworking Center is ready to go. We are beginning our Tools We Use week in Scholastic's Imagine It, Make It theme and the children will be making and creating things using real tools. I look forward to this center every year, but there are safety rules and when it is open, a teacher is always close by.
