Dryslwyn Castle, Carmarthenshire. Only fragments of this 13th Century castle on the banks of the River Tywi survive. It was probably built in the 1220s by the princes of Deheubarth. After the death of the last native Prince of Wales, Dafydd ap Gruffudd in 1283, the castle was one of the few remaining substantial stone castles in Wales to be held by a Welshman, the most prominent surviving Welsh lord, Rhys ap Maredudd until he was captured and executed in 1292. www.brechfaforestbarns.co.uk.

Dinefwr Castle, Carmarthenshire. A 12th-century Welsh castle, historic house and 18th-century landscape park. The castle overlooks the River Tywi near the town of Llandeilo, with a very defensible steep drop to the river of several hundred feet. Cenarth Falls & Salmon Leap, Ceredigion. A series of small waterfalls and pools on the river Teifi (absolutely spectacular in full flood) and a well known salmon leap. This 8 acre garden has a fine display of colour in spring, with rhododendrons, magnolias, azaleas and camellias, underplanted with bluebells. Later highlights are the summer hydrangeas and autumn foliage. Open and wooded pathways through the valley offer lovely walks.
