One of my favorite upper back and throat openers. The upper thoracic spine can be hard to access but it is possible to find and create space there, with consistent and mindful practice. When I take time opening up my upper spine, shoulders, throat, hip flexors and quadriceps, backward bending postures come with a lot more space and ease. You can lift your wrists off the floor to add in more of a shoulder stretch, but keep the shoulders active by widening across your shoulder blades.
