HMS Defender is the fifth of the Navy's six state-of-the-art Type 45 destroyers. She successfully completed her maiden deployment in December 2014.

HMS Defender is the fifth of the Navy’s six £1bn Type 45 destroyers – and is currently being built in Glasgow which is one of her two affiliated cities (the other is Exeter). She will be going to sea for trials in October this year and will be delivered to her home port of Portsmouth in July 2012.  After a further period of trials she is expected to join the Fleet early in 2013.

HMS Duncan prior to being launch in Govan shipyard by Mrs Marie Ibbotson. The sixth and last of the Royal Navy’s powerful new Type 45 Destroyers was launched today on the Clyde. The 7,500 tonne warship ‘Duncan’ has been built by BAE Systems using 2800 tonnes of steel - more than used in Blackpool Tower - which equates to 100,000 square metres and is covered with 40 tonnes of paint.

HMS Harvester (H19). assigned to the Western Approaches Command for convoy escort duties. Harvester and another destroyer sank a German submarine in October. She was briefly assigned to Force H in May 1941, but her anti-aircraft armament was deemed too weak and she was transferred to the Newfoundland Escort Force in June 1941 for escort duties in the North Atlantic. The ship was returned to the Western Approaches Command in October 1941 and was converted to an escort destroyer in early 1942.
