Michael Holding: In my mind, one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. He helped usher in one of the greatest eras in the history of the game. A speed merchant with a temper. Venomous comes to mind. Yet so graceful and elegant. The nickname "Whispering Death" was understood by all who faced him.

EVERTON WEEKES

Tests span: Matches Highest Score Runs Average 15 Hundreds, 19 Fifties; First-class span: Matches Highest Score Runs Average 36 Hundreds, 54 Fifties.

FIVE IN A ROW: On this day (January 3) in 1949, Everton Weekes of West Indies set a world record that will probably stand forever. With his 101 in Calcutta, Weekes completed a sequence of ton in five consecutive innings of a Test. It might have been six had he not been run out for 90 in his next Test innings, in Madras. Oh, and six years later, in New Zealand, Weekes reeled off three back-to-back hundreds against New Zealand. Whaddaplaya!
