#DMUglobal aims to offer a meaningful international experience to 50 per cent of DMU students over the next five years, helping their personal development and ensuring they are better placed to meet the needs of global employers
#DMUglobal has partnered with the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEI) to offer DMU students a chance to experience a trip centered around their International Chinese Tailoring course. Students will spend the summer learning traditional Shanghainese men’s tailoring techniques and visiting the famous Sham Shui Po fabric and accessory wholesale market.
Krishna Nama is an Indian research student with the Emerging Technologies Research Centre at DMU. As an international student studying abroad, he knows first-hand the value of international experience. He said:“I feel it's a good opportunity to learn about other cultures and lifestyles and sharing this knowledge with others. This will broaden our perspective on the world."
Cassie Parker, BSc (Hons) Forensic Computing, is part of the #DMUglobal group spending two weeks on a field trip to Brazil. She said: "Being on a plane for the first time was a great and exciting experience. And even with the language barrier the Brazilians have made us feel very welcome."
Contour Fashion graduate Sophie Sutcliffe did an internship in New York with Gap while at DMU. She now works in Rotterdam. "My internship experience made me realise I could cope by myself in a country I had never experience before. I would definitely recommend students to get involved in international opportunities because it's really invaluable when it comes to experience and industry skills."

Meet Andrew Lager, one of the #DMUglobal students currently in Brazil where they will be studying at the Universidade Federale Santa Maria. Andrew, an Education Studies student, said: "Gotta say São Paulo, Brazil is amazing, it's huge and such a different way of life! Could not have chosen a better group of students/chaperones to be on this field trip with. Cheers #DMUglobal!"
