A very fine, Edwardian illustration of George Sq in Glasgow with one of their early electric cars - part of a system that would grow to be one of 'the' municipal tramway systems and, indeed, to the the UK's last true urban operator in 1962. I like the brolley - uncertain if its to keep the sun off a delicate lady (who, truthfully didn't travel upstairs that often!) or the rain - the latter may be more likely!

Another in the series of publicity booklets issued by GCT - this wonderful cover for the 1938 edition, the year Glasgow hosted the Empire Exhibition as can be seen in the background of the illustration with Thomas Tait's famous Tower overlooking Bellahouston Park. The vehicles look their best in the Department's colourful livery, and the tram is one of the 100 'Coronation' type delivered in 1937 that helped set the standard in many respects for the ultimate development of the British double…
