Eastwell Manor, Ashford, Kent. Winchilsea was formally adjudged bankrupt on 5.10.1870. Then occupied by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, 2nd son of Queen Victoria. He lived there until 1893 with his family when he inherited the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg + Gotha in Germany. After WWI, Eastwell faced the same economic problems that also affected many other English stately homes. In the 1920s the main house was severely damaged by fire and rebuilt on the same site, 1926/28.
