There’s been an epic battle between the gales of winter and the certainty of spring this year. Finally, as we transitioned from the spring solstice to British summertime, the zany green fresh growth of spring spread a balm of grace over our garden. The tulips are pushing their way up in the terrace’s urns and the Ukrainian flag is flutters defiantly above Perranuthnoe’s church.
Decorating a Christmas table is a wonderful excuse to go to town once a year. Over the years I’ve tried everything from full on red bling to laid back house-on-the prairie collides with Nordic chic! This year it was glittering glass fairy lights and foraged greenery for a vintage Christmas feel that really suits our home.
This year our table has a centrepiece of foraged greenery from the farm and hoarded items – set off by glittering glass candlesticks. Charles may complain that our loft is groaning at the seams but a few minutes salvaging the already wired redundant fir cones and goodies from Christmas wreaths soon build a nice library of festive tat”
A Christmas welcome
A Christmas welcome starts at the very entrance and festive wreath really helps to set the scene. Every year I hang the Christmas door wreath in the rafters of the attic to dry and then next year it becomes part of our Christmas home for years to come.
