The Long Pepper, called in Sanskrit language, pippali, is probably the first variety of these peppercorns to reach the civilization around the Mediterranean Sea. The peppercorn look like the hazel tree bezels, of 2 or 3 cm, covered by scales like the pine cones. It may grow on a creeper and it is picked prematurely. When dried in the sun, it turns dark and may become red.
