Most of the theatre owners in Kanchipuram are rich silk sari manufacturers or textile tycoons, for whom theatre business was just a glamorous hobby. But over the years paying unheard of MG’s for new films had an effect on their business. The grapevine has it that Rs 1 Crore was paid as MG for Endhiran, Rs 65 Lakhs for 7aum Arivu, Rs 50 lakhs for Billa 2 and Rs 30 lakhs for Saguni, which Kanchipuram theatre owners never recovered.
