Southern Black Eyed Peas - The original recipe used salt pork, but this uses bacon. Grab a bowl of these peas, a dash of Tabasco, a slab of hot-from-the-oven cornbread, some green onions and tomato slices and dig in!
Emeril Lagasse’s Smoked Sausage and Black-Eyed Peas - made for New Years dinner, soooo good! Made meatballs out of Jimmy Dean hot pork sausage. Haven't been a huge fan of black eyed peas in the past but I will be making this more often than once a year.
I love this recipe because it's easy, quick and so versatile. You can change the herbs & spices to make it to your liking. One of our favorite alternatives uses Cajun spices. The blackeyed pea portion is even better if made ahead & reheated while the rice is cooking the day it's served.
Southern Style Black-Eyed Peas with Ham Hocks. I added three ham hocks becuase that's what came in the package. Soaked for 24 hours, added to the crock pot and kept on high for a while. This took all day but was so creamy and delicious in the end.
I was never a black eyed pea fan till I had them in this dish. Itâs wonderful! You can serve it alone or with brown rice which goes extra good with it. FYI did you know they eat black eyed peas in the south for luck?
