Chernobyl - Beautiful and deadly.

Pripyat funfair was due to be opened on May The Chernobyl disaster happened April No one ever managed to ride the ferris wheel. It remains one of the most irradiated parts of Pripyat since the disaster, making it still dangerous today, 22 years on.

Chernobyl-today is the 30 anniversary of Chernobyl. Take a moment and think about how many people suffered. Thanks :) --Lydia/Ldubwhat//

The Chernobyl nuclear incident was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated by inadequately trained people.

I just assumed it was for a relative. I did NOT see that coming.

Yeah, Chernobyl is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of baby girl names XD

One of the most haunting photos from Chernobyl- A liquidator recovers a baby abandoned in a village home during the evacuation. - Because I actually find the entire Chernobyl incident interesting. Sad, very sad.

12 October 1991: Few people know that there was a second explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power station on 11 October, 1991 in the turbine hall of reactor 2. Liquidator friends contacted Kostin, who immediately visited the site accompanied by his wife, Alla, who, too worried to stay at home, spent the whole night at a control post as she was not authorised to enter. The roof was blown off but, fortunately, there was no radioactive leak. Photograph: Igor Kostin/Corbis

Igor Kostin: Chernobyl - The Aftermath ~ I believe this is from a second explosion, not the original in This one, luckily, destroyed the roof but did not leak any radiation.

The irradiated ghost town of Pripyat is chock full of abandonments for one simple reason: the 1986 Chernobyl disaster destroyed the town without harming any of its structures. The fate of its people are another story altogether.
