Graphic of iceberg culture

Iceberg Concept of Culture- I use this for so many activities in class. Primarily, I use it for students to analyze elements of culture found in literature, movies, and art. It helps them seem deeper than the surface levels of culture.

#equality Just because we didn't have the "concept" in words, doesn't mean it wasn't a thing that still happened. people used to think diseases were people being possessed by demons; just because we didn't have a concept of disease doesn't mean they didn't exist until we did. Also, the idea that sexual identities are new is a misconception brought on by white European cultures that invaded. PLENTY of cultures, even long ago, had concepts of sexuality other than straight.

I never knew sappho was bi and she's literally talked about all the time in relation to wlw

With attitudes of ownership towards female bodies like this, it’s no wonder society struggles with the concept of ‘my body, my choice’ with regard to abortions. If a woman you supposedly love is being given pain and discomfort by a part of her body, and you can’t imagine why that is more important than your own appreciation of that part of her body. http://fuckyeahwomenprotesting.tumblr.com/post/154983670545/nestofstraightlines-flowerlygirls#notes
