Procedural (implicit) Memory = refers to unconscious memories such as skills (e.g. learning to ride a bicycle) Declarative (explicit) Memory = refers to memories which can be consciously recalled such as facts and knowledge. Declarative memory can be divided into two categories: episodic memory which stores specific personal experiences and semantic memory which stores factual information.
Yipee!!! Justification for naptime!!! :) It has been found that sleeping soon after learning benefited both types of declarative memory, this means that it would be a good thing to rehearse any information you need to remember just prior to going to bed. In some sense, you may be 'telling' the sleeping brain what to consolidate.
