Egyptian Hieroglyphics, As early as 5000 B.C. picture writing was used to communicate ideas. These images, consisting of imitations of the forms humans could see, evolved into an ideographic style of writing; one symbol or glyph corresponding to each spoken word in the language. Ideographic writing followed a different evolution for the cultures of the Sumerians, Chinese, Aztecs, Mayans, and of course, the Egyptians.
