"Crown of thorns" pg. 201 This is an allusion of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ . This is when Jesus Christ was on the cross and a crown of thorns was put on his head. The thorns was sticking him in his head causing his head to bleed.

One example of an allusion is when Julita from "Names/Nombres" gets called Judy Alcatraz. This is an allusion to the prison Alcatraz, where dozens of some of the worst criminals in the country were imprisoned, such as Al Capone. This allusion makes Julita seem very mischievous and somewhat criminal. This is why her parents tell her not to hang out with the people who call her Judy Alcatraz.
