So you see... it's mercy, not grace.  You received mercy, not grace.    Grace is always from God.  Mercy requires that we effect change to continue to receive it.

I think it's hard for people who may not have a close relationship with Jesus to understand what 'grace' means, and I think this is a perfect explanation. Thank You Lord for Your unending grace and mercy.
