This Kimono is a reproduction of '12 hitoe', a Japanese traditional garb for ladies of the Heian Era, which requires 12 layers of kimono to complete the look.  As this piece was made of denim by Rina Karibe, it is probably too heavy to wear comfortably // photo by Tatsuya Ishiguro, 2004

Art by Rina Karibe / Jūnihitoe is only for women to wear. This is the Japanese tradition clothing that come at century. This is the most expensive Japanese tradition cloth.

The Saio were imperial princesses of old (Heian era) who were appointed head priestess of Ise Grand Shrine. When one Saio died and a new one had to be chosen from amongst the current emperor's daughters, the one picked to be the new Saio was carried in a lengthy procession out of Kyoto and to her new home at the Saiku palace in what is now Meiwa. This matsuri honors that procession and tradition.
