One of my favorite paintings: The School of Athens - Raffaello Sanzio

It was painted between 1510 and 1511 as a part of Raphael's commission to decorate with frescoes the rooms now known as the Stanze di Raffaello, in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, known as Raphael , was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. His work is admired for its clarity of form, ease of composition, and visual achievement of the Neoplatonic ideal of human grandeur. Together with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, he forms the traditional trinity of great masters of that period.

Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin, 1504. Geometric perspective, serene faces (except for the rejected suitor breaking his staff), passionate (if a little monotone) colors. A celebration of the Church, the Renaissance and (he signed his name!) the artist himself.

The Marriage of the Virgin, also known as Lo Sposalizio, is an oil painting by Italian High Renaissance artist Raphael. Completed in 1504 for a Franciscan church in Città di Castello, the painting depicts a marriage ceremony between Mary and Joseph.
