One of the first Canadian aces of the war, F/O Allan B "Benjy" Angus of No 85 Squadron RAF was killed in combat, aged 22, when his Hurricane Mk I was shot down near Dunkirk after claiming 2 victories on 16 May 1940. The citation of the DFC he received on 31 May recorded that he had claimed 5 enemy aircraft destroyed, including a He 111 he shared with P/O William D "Hurricane" David of No 87 Squadron RAF on 14 May.
