General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, one of the Union heroes of the Battle of Gettysburg, died on February 1914 at the age of He was awarded the Medal of Honor 30 years after the battle, and was also a governor of Maine.

Joshua Chamberlain (September 8, 1828 - February 24, 1914), American college Professor from the State of Maine who volunteered during the Civil War to join the Union Army, reaching the rank of Brigadier General.  For his gallantry at Gettysburg, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Joshua Chamberlain was a professor at Bowdoin College who led the Maine at the pivotal battle of Gettysburg. When his men started to run out of ammo and were at risk of being overwhelmed, he ordered a bayonet charge that routed the Confederate troops.
