Mayer 3.July 12, 1885 - October 29, 1957 Mayer was the co-founder of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) in 1924 and three years after the merger, MGM became the most successful studio in Hollywood. Mayer was also one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Louis B.
