Manchester's #Arndale bus station opened in the late 1970s but, to be honest, never looked as inviting as it does in this official photo. There were few regrets when it closed, precipitated by the IRA bomb planted just around the corner from here in 1996. Its functions are now undertaken by #Shudehill Interchange, a far more modern and comfortable place.

In the normal run of things I would not have shared this rather grainy and mundane snap of a Robin Hood bodied Iveco of Greater Manchester Buses.  However I have learned that lurking in the background on the right is a Wardle Solar, a streetlamp of significance to those in the know, and Lady Wulfrun has kindly asked me to post the image.  The scene is The Strand, Kirkholt, Rochdale, in 1987.  The bus is heading down Daventry Road towards Kingsway.  The mini on the left and the vehicles on…
