Stamp depicting the business end of the Royal Netherlands Navy's light cruiser HNLMS De Ruyter, commissioned in 1936, and sunk by a single Japanese torpedo during the Battle of the Java Sea, February 27-28, 1942. This stamp was designed by Prof. J.B. Romein, engraved by A.B. Hill, printed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co., Ltd., and issued by the Netherlands government in exile in London on June 15, 1944, primarily for use on Dutch warships, Scott No. 265, SG No. 598.
