The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was a United States intelligence agency formed during World War II. It was the wartime intelligence agency, and it was a predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The OSS was formed in order to coordinate espionage activities behind enemy lines for the branches.

Gertrude Legendre's 1945 Christmas card was a sketch of her as a captured POW and the present Christmas showing her celebrating with the essentials. She was an American socialite who served as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). She was the first American woman captured on the western front in France by the Germans. Legendre was held as a prisoner of war for six months before she was able to escape into Switzerland.
