Old Mother Hubbard's cottage in Yealmpton, where it is said Sarah Catherine Martin penned the rhyme in 1804, but more likely where "Old Mother Hubbard" lived in retirement. She claimed that she had only done the illustrations, and the tale may have been an older one, the tale of "Dame Trop", also known as Dame Trot. The character of Mother Hubbard goes back to 1591.
