On 8 April 1831 Oliver Cowdery wrote to church leaders in Kirtland, Ohio, concerning the activities of the missionaries sent to the American Indians on the then-western border of the United States. After being delayed, Cowdery and his companions sought local employment while awaiting authorization to re-enter Indian territory. This communication was Cowdery’s second from Missouri to his Ohio associates. Frederick G. Williams copied this letter into Letterbook 1 as early as January 1833.
May 15, 1829 - Joseph Smith & Oliver Cowdery received the Aaronic Priesthood from John the Baptist along the banks of the Susquehanna River, near Harmony, Pa. (see D 13). The two baptized one another, as instructed.
