Oscar's Bar and grill in old Metairie on Metairie Road. The neighborhood has the old fashioned charm of Mayberry, with a mixture of quaint old homes, businesses and a smattering of McMansions. If you like a great hamburger and baked potato, this is the place to go. There's plenty of seating for dining, as well as a huge wrap-around bar area. There are pool tables and dart boards if you've got to move around.
This restaurant is right next to our condo building on the island. It's open for B/L/D, but everyone seems to recommend it for lunch, and specifically the chicken enchilada which some say is the best in PV. Nice restaurant and view, but prices are fair/reasonable.
The Liberty Bar restaurant has a bit of a fun-house quality to it: Floors, ceilings, and window frames have sloped in different directions ever since the building's foundation shifted during a 1921 flood. But, as a neon sign outside advertises (it reads SERIOUS FOOD), the menu is no laughing matter. Chef Oscar Trejo is considered one of the city's finest. Bread is baked daily on the premises, and specials may include mesquite-grilled duck breast.328 E. Josephine St., 210/227-1187.
