Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-1865). French Socialist journalist. Known as 'the father of anarchism,' active in the Socialist movement in Paris from 1848, founded and edited three radical journals, exiled 1858-62, wrote many books including 'What is Ownership' 1840 and 'The Philosophy of Poverty' 1846.
