Originally composed by Alberto Domínguez Borrás (1907-1975) of Chiapas, several variations of the song exist today. In most versions the owl personifies a young man daydreaming. Sold by Christie's 2013.

Ritchie Valens 1941 – 1959 was a Mexican-American singer, songwriter and guitarist. A completely self-taught musician, he often improvised new lyrics and added new riffs to popular songs while he was playing. This is an aspect of his music that is not heard in his commercial studio recordings.

Ritchie Valens died in the plane crash that also took Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, but we'll remember him for La Bamba.
