These are the mugshots of William West and William West, and they are not related. They were both sent to Leavenworth Prison at the same time, in 1903, and after some confusion, the staff understood they had two different prisoners with the exact same name, who looked exactly alike. They are part of the reason fingerprints are now used as identification.

KKK leader sent back to prison, burned cross in Alabama
A former Ku Klux Klan leader who pleaded guilty to burning a cross in an African-American neighborhood was ordered Wednesday to return to prison for violating terms of his probation. U.S. District Judge W. Keith Watkins ordered Steven Joshua Dinkle (pictured here in a 2012 mugshot), back to prison for 10 months.
