Reading Notebook: A great alternative to book reports. Allows you to monitor what the student is thinking as they are reading. Struggling writers could develop an audio reading notebook on their iPod or iPad.

This is an amazing example of a reader's workshop notebook. Lots of ideas of things to include and downloadable forms.

I love the way this teacher organizes student reading so that even Daily 5 reading can be tracked and students become more self-aware of their habits. Some good sections to include in readers notebooks.
