Renewable Energy Project for Kids: Power from Water

Kids learn about potential energy, and mechanical energy, and how to make power from water with one of our favorite renewable energy projects for kids.

How to Build a Wind Turbine. If you look closely you can see that it's nothing more than a plastic water bottle with cardboard (balsa wood?) top and bottom mounted on a dowel. How cool is that!?!?

Wind turbines are hot topics right now for science fair projects. Learn a variety of ways to construct these items here.

STEM Challenge: Just in time for the windy month of March is a series of STEM events including this one about making a car powered by the wind!

STEM Wind-Powered Car Challenge

I like the idea of building wind-powered cars, either pushed by a fan or students blowing on them or maybe a balloon. This would also incorporate well with a lesson on force and motion.

Here is a great science craft to teach kids about alternative energy: a solar oven! Harnessing the power of the sun is cool and teaches us about caring for our environment and using renewable resources. Best of all, kids can make a snack they love, nachos, using the solar oven they made using this DIY. The directions are remarkably easy and you might already own all of the materials needed. It's a wonderful summer activity to do with your own kids, or in a community or classroom setting.

The politics of renewable energy

There are non-renewable resources and renewable resources. A renewable resources is something we can use over and over again. A non-renewable resource is something that is limited in our earth.

Solar Tree « Golden Jubilee || A unique lighting concept that combines avante-garde design with renewable energy technology. A solar tree is an aesthetic means of producing solar energy. It uses multiple solar panels which form the shape of a tree by assistance of poles. This is a project that would symbolise the inherent atmosphere of art, culture and science on campus. This project would be taken by the GE3 as a part of the Golden Jubilee of the Students’ Gymkhana.
