Smooth muscle tissue -- Smooth muscle tissue reduces or enlarges involuntarily the diameter of vessels they surround, such as the intestines. One of its secondary functions is to help moving fluids through the body.
Alprostadil is initially administered in the doctor’s office, and the patient is trained on exactly how to inject himself. By relaxing the smooth muscle tissue and dilating the major artery in the penis, alprostadil is efficacious at enhancing the blood flow to the penis, thereby leading to an erection. Alprostadil should not be used more then three times a week, and leftover solution should be promptly discarded. Alprostadil should be injected directly into the spongy tissue of the penis.
Galanin. From contraction of smooth muscle tissue in the bowel to inhibition of insulinsecretion from the pancreas - or augmenting then pai allieviating effect of morphine. Galanin is predominantly an inhibitory, hyperpolarizing neuropeptide and as such inhibits neurotransmitter release. Linked to an acute antidepressive efficacy, probably by a mechanism related to that of therapeutic sleep deprivation.
