Sonia Sotomayor (b. 1954) is an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. She's the  Court's 111th justice, its first Hispanic justice, and its 3rd female justice. Sotomayor was nominated to the U.S. District Court for New York's southern district by Pres. George H. W. Bush; in 1997, nominated by Pres. Clinton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit; in 2009, Pres. Obama nominated her to the Supreme Court.

Sonia Sotomayor was born June 25, 1954, in the Bronx, New York. Her desire to be a judge was first inspired by the TV show Perry Mason. She graduated from Yale Law School and passed the bar in 1980. She became a  U.S. District Court Judge in 1992 and was elevated to the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 1998. In 2009, she became the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in U.S. history.

Nominated by President Barack Obama on May Sonia Sotomayor became the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in US history.
