Nelson Mandela was a huge historical and influential figure in Africa. He was a major figure in the ending of Apartheid. He started out with violent protest. This landed him in jail. After he spent 27 years in false imprisonment, he helped the last white South African president abolish Apartheid laws and create a new and equal constitution. He then went on the be the first black president of South Africa.
