February 12, 1946 – African American United States Army veteran Isaac Woodard is severely beaten by a South Carolina police officer to the point where he loses his vision in both eyes. The incident galvanizes the Civil Rights Movement and partially inspires Orson Welles' film Touch of Evil.

On US Army veteran Isaac Woodard, hours after being discharged from the United States Army, is severely beaten by South Carolina police so severely he was blinded for life. Woodard also suffered partial amnesia as a result of the injuries.

Police Officer Allen Lee Jacobs was shot multiple times as he and other Crime Response Team officers attempted to serve a warrant on a wanted gang member at a home near Rebecca Street and Ackley Road, in the Nicholtown neighborhood.
