One of several Pre-Raphaelite stained glass windows, for which Waterford church is famed, by William Morris in St Michael and All Angels Church in Waterford, near Hertford. Here: an angel bends over St Cecilia
St. Cecilia's Abbey. "I prefer going to the West End for Compline at a monastery than to the theatre; I have to restrain myself from jumping off 'buses when I pass a Catholic Church, because I want to greet the Lord before I socialise with others; I prefer Church vigils to night-clubs; I march in rosary processions instead of political rallies."
Memorial sculpture of St Cecilia(patron saint of musicians) by Stefano Maderno marks the gravesite of the rediscovered body of the martyred saint in 1599. Depicts the saint as she lay dying in her last moments and mimics they way her corpse was found in the grave, uncorrupted. She wore a dress and her face was toward the ground...an incision in her neck was visible.
