Brussel sprouts should be trimmed of the outer thick leaves (just 1 or 2). And a slice off of the stem. Cut any in half if large so that all are about the same size. To roast, lightly oil and salt and pepper to taste. In oven (350) for probably at least 15-30 min., depending on their size. Just check them after 15 min. to see where they are. To steam, put in a steamer basket and boil away. This will be a much faster way to cook them so I would check them after 5-10 min.
