Force Bill (1833)  On January 19, 1833, President Andrew Jackson requested Congress to grant him the authority to use the military to enforce tariff laws in any region of the United States. Jackson's request came after South Carolina had declared the hated Tariff of 1828 (also known as the Tariff of Abominations) null and void in November 1832.  #history

The "Tariff of Abominations" was a protective tariff passed by the Congress of the United States on May 19, 1828, designed to protect industry in the northern United States. Enacted during the presidency of Andrew Jackson.  It set a 62% tax on 92% of all imported goods.

This is a political cartoon depicting the Nullification Crisis. The Nullification Crisis was when the US Government put on some tariffs but South Carolina declared them unconstitutional and unenforceable.

The Tariff of Abominations was also the Tariff of 1828. It was proposed by Henry Clay, and it was supposed to protect industry in the Northern United States. It was thought to be an abomination in the South because it did nothing but hurt the region.
