USS hornet CVS-12, my first ship. My mother helped build it in the early forties, and twenty years later I served aboard her, during the Viet Nam war.

USS Hornet is a United States Navy aircraft carrier of the Essex class. Construction started in August she was originally named USS Kearsarge, but was renamed in honor of the USS Hornet which was lost in October becoming the eighth ship to bear the name.

USS Hornet was an Essex-class aircraft carrier that entered service in 1943 and took part in several campaigns during World War II.
