A new photo purporting to show Billy the Kid (left) has emerged. The only verified picture of the Western outlaw was sold to billionaire William Koch n 2011 for million.

NAN ASPINWALL - the first woman to ride on horseback across North America - alone.  She rode from San Francisco to New York from September 1, 1910 arriving on July 8, 1911, on a bet from Buffalo Bill, whose Wild West show she performed in with her husband. She rode her thoroughbred mare, Lady Ellen, on the journey.

This photograph was taken in 1895, and shows Calamity Jane. Calamity Jane was a colorful figure from the Old West. She was friends with Wild Bill Hickock, and in later years was a member of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Calamity Jane died on this day, August 1, in the year 1903. She was buried next to Wild Bill.

Calamity Jane - Martha Jane Canary or Cannary (May 1852 – August 1903 age better known as Calamity Jane, was an American frontierswoman and professional scout, known for her claim of being an acquaintance of Wild Bill Hickok and for fighting Indians.

John Y. Nelson:  (1826-1903) - noted frontier scout.  He joined Cody's "Wild West Show" in 1884 and was with the outfit for many years. He guided Brigham Young and the Mormon pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847; worked as a military scout with William F. Cody (Buffalo Bill); fought in the Indian Wars, and served as a lawman in North Dakota. He often narrowly escaped death from bullets, arrows, and knives. Nelson’s story is a fascinating view of the early American west in all its glory.

William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody (February 26, 1846 – January 10, 1917) was an American soldier, bison hunter and showman. He was born in the Iowa Territory (now the U.S. state of Iowa), in Le Claire but lived several years in Canada before his family moved to the Kansas Territory. Buffalo Bill received the Medal of Honor in 1872 for service to the US Army as a scout. One of the most colorful figures of the American Old West

This picture is of Whirling Horse. I consider this photograph to be a classic, and shows the man with full head dress, buckskin clothing, and blanket. It is believed that Whirling Horse was a member of a Wild West Show, possibly Buffalo Bill Cody's. So, in looking at the picture we must wonder whether this is the way he looked as a traditional Indian person, or whether this is how Buffalo Bill told him he should dress for the show.

On August 13, 1860, Annie Oakley, one of the greatest female sharpshooters in American history, is born in Ohio. Oakley's amazing talent and timely rise to fame led to a starring role in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, which propelled her to become one of the first American female superstars. Here she is in 1893 in her tent at the Chicago World’s fair.

Frank E. Butler (February 25, 1852 – November 21, 1926) was a marksman in Wild West variety shows. He was married to sharpshooter Annie Oakley. As Oakley became the star attraction in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, Butler became her manager, writing articles and press releases. Oakley said that the financial part was always in her husband's hands.

On November Annie Oakley died. Frank Butler stopped eating after Annie's death, which caused his own death from starvation eighteen days later, on November
